Pronihil: I used a Canon 20D, with a Canon 300mm F4 lens. If you are a serious amateur about photography: I would strongly recommend you the new Canon rebel XTi (also known as the 400D). It has the same censor as the 20D, but has a higher resolution (10 Mpx), and is less expansive.
And the money you save buying a 400D vs. a 20D / ( or updated 30D ), you put it on a great lens. You better put less money on the body, and more on the lens; than the other way around, which is a common beginner's mistake.
For wildlife photo you need at least 300mm lens.
